A Brief History

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. They are currently members of the Southern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They are sometimes referred to as the team with the most potential in the National Football League. The Texans joined the NFL as a 2002 expansion team. The city's previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997, changing their name to the Tennessee Titans in 1999.

After signing an extension through the 2012 season, coach Gary Kubiak enters his fifth season with one goal in mind—help the Texans earn their first playoff appearance.

In their last four games last season, the Texans played with a possible playoff spot at stake, and they won them all to finish a team-best 9-7. But they lost the last wild card to the New York Jets.

The Texans finished with their best road record, 5-3, and they were 3-1 against the NFC for a third consecutive season. This season, they play the NFC East, including the Redskins, Cowboys and Giants in the first five weeks.

The one thing the Texans have to do is to play better in the AFC South. They were 1-5 in their division.
