RBK- Football
A Brief History

The New York Jets are a professional American football team based in the New York metropolitan area. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team plays their home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey at Giants Stadium, which is named after another NFL team that plays there, the New York Giants. The Jets officially refer to the venue as "The Meadowlands," a name used on all official NFL and team game notes regarding Jets' home games.

The club's headquarters and training facility are located at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York on Long Island. They are constructing a new training facility and corporate headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey.

The team began in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League under the name New York Titans. It was renamed after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963. The Jets later joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.

The Jets hold the distinction of being the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

NFL Preseason Capsules (AP)
No Tom Brady. No Eli Manning. The New England Patriots and New York Giants took no chances with their quarterbacks in a preseason finale Thursday night that matched February's Super Bowl opponents. This time there was nothing at stake, except a few jobs before the final roster cutdown on Saturday. David Carr took advantage of Manning's rare night off and threw touchdown passes to Darcy Johnson and...

Favre watches backups in Jets' win over Eagles (AP)

Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb makes a face as he watches the action on the big screen from the sidelines during a preseason football game against the New York Jets, Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, in Philadelphia. The Jets won 27-20.

Brett Favre slung a few passes during pregame drills and called it a night. He put a green cap on and stood on the sideline, arms folded, jersey slightly untucked and safe from harm. With Favre sitting out, fourth-string quarterback Erik Ainge led the New York Jets to a 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason finale Thursday night.

Jets Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

When the Jets began practicing this summer, all eyes were on two quarterbacks. Now only one is getting attention, and he wasn't even on the roster when training camp began.

Brett Favre came to the Jets in a surprising trade on Aug. 6, and suddenly the team's main focus shifted from the in-progress starting quarterback battle between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens to the anointing of Favre as the starter. That, and a crash course to try to get him up to speed after 16 years of him running the offense in Green Bay, which had a somewhat different system.

Thus far, the results have been somewhat mixed. Favre still has his trademark strong arm, as evidenced on a 49-yard throw in the third preseason game against the Giants in which wideout Jerricho Cotchery easily reached...
